ARTIST STATEMENT

My life has centered around art from an early age. I started drawing when I was eleven or twelve and decided that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I spent four years at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles and majored in film arts as an animation student.

I was able to work for The Walt Disney Studios on The Jungle Book and Winnie The Pooh and the Blustery Day cutting my teeth as an in-betweener. I loved the work so much that I spent the next forty years as an Animator and Director working on many Saturday morning cartoon shows and a few theatricals and commercials as well.

I discovered my love for painting in 1998 on a trip to Maui and have been developing my skills in different mediums ever since.

Much of the time my art develops from an inner feeling of wanting to communicate with others via the visual mediums I work with. My cartoons are probably the fastest way for me to make a strong statement about something that has happened in politics or society. My paintings take a softer approach as I look at the beauty and differences of life that I encounter.
